Karin Frick receives her doctorate

2 Jul 2025 - Notification
The Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Bern has awarded Karin Frick a Doctor rerum socialum. Her dissertation, which she wrote under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Marc Bühlmann (Année Politique Suisse), is entitled "Das 'vertretbare' Parlament: Typen parlamentarischer Stellvertretung in den Schweizer Kantonen und Liechtenstein". She recently received her diploma in Bern.

In the monograph, which is yet to be published, Frick describes the existing parliamentary representation systems in Liechtenstein and the Swiss cantons. In a systematic comparison, she identifies their different modes of operation and shows how these are anchored in the theory of representation. The core thesis is that, depending on the specific design of a proxy system, it strives to realize a different understanding of representation. Frick has already explained what this can mean in specific cases in a lecture at the Liechtenstein Institute (Das "vertretbare" Parlament: Parlamentarische Stellvertretung in Liechtenstein und den Schweizer Kantonen, 15.4.2025).

The entire team at the Liechtenstein Institute would like to congratulate Karin Frick on this success!

Dean Prof. Dr. Thomas Myrach presents Karin Frick with her diploma at the graduation ceremony of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences in Bern on 18 June 2025.
