The 13th LIEconomics seminar focused on the IMF’s first Article IV mission to Liechtenstein
In the country report on Liechtenstein (2025 Article IV Consultation) published by the IMF at the end of March, the developments in the national economy and public budgets were analyzed, the outlook and risks were monitored and economic policy recommendations were made, supplemented by further analyses and documentation (Selected Issues).
On the initiative of the Ministry of General Government Affairs and Finance, the 13th edition of the LIEconomics seminar organized by the Liechtenstein Institute was dedicated to these IMF reports. Around 30 representatives from public authorities, research institutions and the private sector took part. The starting point for the discussions were the keynote speeches on the policy discussion chapters of the country report by Daniela Sele (Ministry of General Government Affairs and Finance, «Fiscal Policy» chapter), Martin Gächter (Financial Market Authority, «Financial Sector Policies»), Theresa Goop (Stiftung Zukunft.li, «Structural Policies») and Simon Gstöhl (Office of Statistics, «Data and Statistics»). Liechtenstein’s challenges against the backdrop of future IMF country reports and the associated obligation to improve the availability of macroeconomic statistics on Liechtenstein were also discussed.
The Economics Department of the Liechtenstein Institute was closely involved in the Article IV mission and the IMF’s previous fact finding work. For example, through presentations, provision of data and analyses/assessments or through personal discussions and correspondence with IMF experts or the authorities involved within Liechtenstein.
The Liechtenstein Institute will continue to participate in the development of economic statistics on Liechtenstein in the future, whether through its own data collection, estimation and processing or –as recommended by the IMF in its country report – by contributing its expertise to the further development of official statistics.
