The symposium was attended by philosophers, theologians, political scientists, ethnologists, sociologists, economists, ecologists, historians and lawyers. It was guided by the assumption that the phenomenon of subsidiarity is older than the term and that it played a role in various disciplines, epochs and cultures under different names. The conference contributions are documented in a conference proceedings.
