wahlhilfe.li is online

19 Dec 2024 - Mitteilung
On February 9, 2025, Liechtenstein will once again hold parliamentary elections. To mark this occasion, the association wahlhilfe.li launched an online platform for the third time after 2017 and 2021, which provides information on the political positions of the candidates. The Liechtenstein Institute created a questionnaire for this purpose and is also supporting the project with its scientific expertise.

Large number of candidates
Rarely have voters in Liechtenstein had so much choice in a state parliament election. A total of 69 candidates and four electoral lists are standing for election. wahlhilfe.li offers voters the opportunity to compare their political position with that of the candidates. The platform was launched on December 19, 2024 and presented to the media.

Selection of questions
The core of the election aid is a questionnaire created by the Liechtenstein Institute with 50 questions on ten different topics. The questionnaire framework is based on the work of smartvote.ch. However, many questions were asked that are specific to Liechtenstein. One challenge in creating the questionnaire was that not all election programs had been published at the time. However, proposals from civil society and pending popular initiatives were taken into account. In addition, care was taken to ensure that questions were asked on topics where Liechtenstein also has room for maneuver in terms of content, taking into account the regional union with Switzerland and membership of the European Economic Area (EEA). Finally, care was taken to ensure that the core issues of all parties were taken into account.

Election aid
wahlhilfe.li is intended as an offer for candidates and as a service for voters. The aim of wahlhilfe.li is to contribute to an objective and transparent election campaign. Ideally, however, wahlhilfe.li is only one of many sources of information that ultimately form the basis of an individual's decision to vote.
