The Law Department at the Liechtenstein Institute is being strengthened
The legal scholar Prof. Dr. Benedikt Pirker has recently joined the Research Area Law of the Liechtenstein Institute. Benedikt Pirker grew up in Oberperfuss near Innsbruck, studied Law at the University of Innsbruck and graduated with a Magister iuris in 2007. This was followed by his dissertation on International law, which he completed at the Graduate Institute Geneva in 2012. He then moved to the University of Fribourg (CH) for his habilitation. He habilitated in 2017 on the topic of fundamental rights of the Union. Since then he has been teaching - since 2023 as a Titularprofessor - in the subjects of international law and European law. For the past three years, he has worked for the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) as a legal advisor.
At the Liechtenstein Institute, Prof. Dr. Pirker will focus on topics relating to European Economic Area (EEA) and European Union (EU) law and the role of Liechtenstein in this context. In particular, the focus will be on questions of internal market law and the institutional functioning of EEA, also in comparison with other legal regimes such the Swiss-EU relations.
The Liechtenstein Institute is delighted to welcome Prof. Dr. Benedikt Pirker to our team and looks forward to working with him in the future.
