Friendship clauses in Liechtenstein-Swiss state treaties

In a miscellany in the August issue of the Swiss Journal of History, Lukas Ospelt looks at the declarations of friendship in the Liechtenstein-Swiss state treaties between 1920 and 2023 and embeds them in the history of official relations between Vaduz and Bern.
When were such declarations of friendship made? What significance did they have and what purpose did they serve? Why did they disappear for a long time in the 20th century? And how can it be explained that they have reappeared since the 1990s? These are some of the questions explored in this article.
