The cultural studies analysis - the result of three years of research work in Liechtenstein - elaborates on the astonishing diversity of facets in the small state, which has to assert itself both in the regional and European context, but occasionally encounters stumbling blocks here and there. Identity proves to be a reflection of a specific borderline behaviour between isolation and opening, which characterises even the small community. The work is based primarily on document analyses and in-depth interviews.
Project duration: 1992 to 1994
In the early 1990s, Ralph Kellenberger devoted a major research project to the topic of culture and identity in the small state. After completing his research, the topic was taken up again on a case-by-case basis and dealt with in smaller studies, including a representative opinion poll in 2006.
