Based on a data collection covering all economic sectors and a framework of integration and small state theory, the economic effects of EEA membership are made tangible and productive for the debate on small states. Finally, central priorities for Liechtenstein's policy in a Europe that is growing closer together are identified.
The author comes to the conclusion that EEA membership has so far not brought about any fundamental economic changes compared to the previous situation. Although the competitive situation has intensified, especially in previously protected professional sectors, the Liechtenstein economy as a whole appears to be well prepared for this competition, especially if Liechtenstein succeeds in maintaining its advantageous location factors.
