Visit by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of San Marino, H.E. Lucca Beccari, and his delegation
Director Thomas Meier welcomed the guests and gave a short presentation on the Liechtenstein Institute and examples of the Institute's current research. Georges Baur, Head of the Legal Department, then focused on selected topics such as Liechtenstein's current 30-year membership of the European Economic Area (EEA), the draft association agreement between the EU and San Marino and Andorra, which is based on the EEA agreement, the development of a financial center within the framework of such an agreement and the specific challenges faced by EFTA states in providing social benefits to their citizens residing abroad. Commonalities and the role of small states such as Liechtenstein and San Marino were then discussed.
