The lecture is part of the exhibition «Vom halben zum ganzen Stimmvolk. 40 Jahre Frauenstimmrecht in Liechtenstein» («From half to the whole electorate. 40 years of women's suffrage in Liechtenstein») at the Liechtenstein National Museum.
On the voting weekend of June 30 / July 1, 1984, the men of Liechtenstein approved the introduction of women's voting rights at the third attempt. This made Liechtenstein the last country in Europe to allow women to exercise their political rights.
Getting there was not easy. It took both domestic and foreign political pressure before Liechtenstein women were granted the right to co-determination. However, the legal equality of Liechtenstein women was far from complete with women's suffrage.
The Liechtenstein National Museum is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the introduction of women's suffrage with an exhibition. It shows the ultimately successful path to its implementation, but also explores the question of what has happened since 1984 in terms of equality between men and women. The exhibition thus offers the opportunity to reflect on where Liechtenstein stands today in terms of equality.
