Identification of causes for the stagnating development of Liechtenstein’s goods exports

Liechtenstein’s exports of goods developed very dynamically for decades, synchronising with international trade in goods and outperforming global GDP. Since the 2008/09 financial crisis, however, there has been a tendency towards stagnation with only weak growth. The research project investigated the causes of this, primarily based on the collection and analysis of a comprehensive data set with national export data (at goods category level) from Liechtenstein and eighteen European countries.

The research project was carried out as part of the «Focus Topic» module of «Applied Economic Analysis», the results of which will be published in LI Focus 2/2024.
